DH and I went to the hospital for the girls 5:30 feeding tonight and I just happened to catch the shift change for the doctors, so was able to ask them what conditions it would take for our girls to come home. They told me that there were a few things. They have to be off the gavage (feeding) tube for 48 hours, eating from a bottle or nursing solely. And they have to be gaining weight steadily. They also have to have been without an apnea (where they stop breathing) or brady (where there heart stops) episode for 5 days. Apparently it is not only preemie babies or those in NICU that have these episodes, just most babies who are totally and entirely healthy do not have monitors on them 24-7 so no one really knows. The babies pull themselves out of it. A had a brady today, though she pulled herself out, so they are not too concerned. It did put our day count back to 0 though. I don't remember the last time K had a brady.
If you can all pray that A (and K) will not have any more bradys or apnea episodes, I would appreciate it. I want them to do well and have the best care possible, but I also want them to do so well and thrive and come home to me soon. This back and forth to the hospital is not fun at all, nor is feeling like when we are at the hospital we are taking away from R, and when we are at home that we are not there for the girls. I am trying hard to get rest, but it is a little difficult balancing and juggling everything. Thank you.

ahh i feel every second of your pain. we were in the same spot. its frustrating and so hard. its the lamest thing to say but its true. this goes by fast and soon enough you will all be home. i know it probably doesn't feel like it but its coming. ari would go almost the amount of time for no brady's and then at the last second he would have one. I'm praying for you guys and can't wait to hear your home!! best wishes.
I was wondering how you were doing it with the constant hospital visits when you really should be napping! I'll definitely be praying for the girls to come home soon. Look at you, Mother of Three!!!
