Advice please!

Now, I started R's blog at the beginning of this year because I wanted to keep this blog separate, so that the entire thing was not about R, but I need advice, please. R is now getting to the stage where I need to think about starting to potty train him - ack! - and I am feeling the need to get a little potty. I am wondering if all moms out there who have already gone through this would please give me their opinions on training toilets that their kids have used. Thanks! I am looking at all the options and feeling overwhelmed.

I just bought one of the cheapest ones out there. I think it was $15 or so. It comes apart and goes on the big potty now and the bottom flips over and is a stool. We have just a seat that fits on the toilet too for another bathroom and a fold-up one for in the diaper bag. I have seen toilet seats too where there is a big seat for adults, a little seat for kids and a lid all on the same set of hinges. I think that may be the next purchase for the downstairs bathroom. The main thing with boys is that little pee guard in the front...you need it! Ooh, I remember too that I saw a one piece potty at some of the higher end stores. It actually was about the same price as the Walmart pottys but it fits their bums nicely, is easily washed, comes in cool colours, has the pee guard, and doesn't fall apart. Downside is that it doesn't fit on the big toilet after. I think they were at eChild and A Child's Place. Happy potty hunting!

p.s.There's a really great resource at www.sesameworkshop.org for potty training. It's an interactive Potty thing with Elmo. Just click "games", then click on Elmo, then Elmo's potty time. Trinity loves it and quotes it every time she uses the bathroom. Apparently, there are also videos. If nothing else, it's Elmo. What kid doesn't like Elmo?
