Did I give you my number?

Telemarketers annoy the heck out of me! Today I got a phone call asking me if I wanted the local paper, for only $11 a week (I think). I told them no, I did not, thank you very much. The guy then asked me when the last time I had read their paper and I told him that about a year ago we had a subscription and we never read the paper, so I would not like to get it. He then proceeded to say that he had just the deal for me... for only __ (I have no idea what price, as I was not interested) I could get just the weekend papers. I proceeded to cut him off and say, no, I was not interested in getting the paper at any time or any price and thank you very much. Then I hung up on him. I felt a little rude, though other than hanging up on him I was polite, but why is it that people don't seem to get it?
Did I ask you to call me?
Did I agree when I hooked up my phone for every business, bank and charity to have access to my number for the express purpose of soliciting my business? (We did try to go with an unlisted number for awhile, but the funny thing was that DH's parents thought we were a telemarketer and would never pick up! As well DH and my mom never knew when it was me when I called their work. So we changed back.)
I am allowed to put up a sign on my house or door stating that people cannot leave unsolicited fliers or drop offs, so how can I make this happen with my phone. It is so frustrating! It takes time out of my day, sometimes I get off a legitimate call where I am talking to a person I want to answer these calls because now they call from actual phone numbers instead of 1-800 numbers.
Arrgh! Another frustration of having modern technology!

Honestly I've stopped picking up the phone for any number that I don't immediately recognize. I can't stand those telemarketers either! Every once in a while though I answer every single one and tell them to take me off their list. Drives me crazy!

It was great in the States because they have a no call list you can put your number on then telemarketers are not allowed to call you. Would love to see that in Canada!

Hey Rayna, I've heard that something like the American "Do Not Call" registry is coming to Canada soon. I saw it on the news the other day but can't remember the details. Anyway, it's coming the only down side is that I think you have to renew it every three years, but at least it will be some relief for you!

Now that I think of it - I believe my sister put my grandma on a no call list a few years ago. I should check into that!
