Sticky Out Bellies

When I was pregnant with R, DH called my bump "the sticky out belly". It was cute and endearing and he would talk to R every day "Hello in there! This is your Daddy!" It helped that with R we saw him for the first time at 11 weeks, as I was having some minor troubles and they wanted to make sure all was alright with him. And of course DH fell in love with him the minute we saw him waving at us and dancing around my womb.
With this pregnancy, everything in our lives are a bit busier and we have R to care for, have been trying to get our basement finished and it has seemed a bit more unreal. DH still talks to the bump, which of course is considerably bigger (you will see in a minute) and the ultrasound that was supposed to make everything real, made the fact that there were two in there a little surreal. In fact, both of us have commented on how little we were looking at the screen during the ultrasound, just because we were trying to digest it all. The twins have heard Daddy's voice a lot in the past two weeks though. "Hey you in there! Hey you over here!" It's been fun to see. R even talked at my belly this morning when I was getting him out of his chair at breakfast. He is so funny!
It's interesting, more this time around I have been noticing how when you are pregnant, your belly seems to not be a part of you. It is the baby - you rub it and pat it - subconsciously trying to protect it from the world and life and any harm. I am much more detached from it - in the sense that when I think about how huge my belly is now, compared to what I was with R, I am OK with that as it is the twins, not me. I am lucky that I tend to not gain weight other than in my stomach and baby weight at this point in my pregnancies, so that is another good thing. Since we found out it is twins, DH has been commenting on how big I am and am going to be - we just don't deny it anymore! :) So here we are, the big picture.

Me at almost 21 weeks with R - June 8, 2005.

Me at almost 21 weeks with the twins - February 18, 2008.
Yeah - I told you there was a big difference! Let's face it, I am going to be a house! We are going to try to get photos every week, as the belly seems to grow almost daily, let alone weekly. Should be interesting to see the progression. Stay tuned!

That is a formidable difference!!! If there was one baby in there I'd put you at at least 6 months. Amazing! Keep the pics coming!

oh you look fabulous.. i was always so surprised at how two can fit in there in the first place. my only complaint was the people who would say "so any day now?" and i'd be like "yeah in like 4 more months..."
you do look fantastic. enjoy!

Rayna,
I remember how much you glowed when you were pregnant with Rhys, and you just looked so lovely! This time around there is no difference in that, a bigger bump, yes, but you still look so pretty with your "maternal glow".. Just so happy for you all!

Thanks all for saying that I look good! Makes a pregnant lady with a bigger belly feel good. Looking at the picture I keep thinking that I look about the same as I did with Rhys, except a difference in the tummy.
I am really happy with my haircut though - didn't realise how much I liked it until this photo. :)

You look beautiful! I love the pictures! It's amazing the difference with two growing instead of just one!
