I received this from my sister today in an email and wanted to share it with you all. I must confess that though I do not go away to work I often let my troubles get the best of me and affect my relationships with R and DH.
The carpenter I hired to help me restore an old farmhouse had just finished a rough first day on the job. A flat tire made her lose an hour of work, her electric saw quit and now her ancient pickup truck refused to start. While I drove her home, she sat in stony silence. On arriving, she invited me in to meet her family. As we walked toward the front door, she paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands.
When opening the door, she underwent an amazing transformation. Her tanned face, was wreathed in smiles and she hugged her two small children and gave her significant other a kiss. Afterward she walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked her about what I had seen her do earlier.
"Oh, that's my trouble tree," she replied. "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing for sure, troubles don't belong in the house with my family. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again."
"Funny things is," she smiled, "When I come out in the morning to pick 'em up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before."
