Mommy and Daddy are Pleased to Announce The Chickletts!

On Thursday, May 22 my wife went in for a routine doctor's examination. Her blood pressure was so high she was rushed into the labor and delivery ward of the hospital. After several days of in and out hospital visits and at home nursing care she was admitted on Sunday. Tuesday the 27th we thought she was going to be discharged. The nurse checked her blood pressure once more and our lives changed forever!. Her BP was through the roof. She was rushed to high risk pregnancy.

At 7:05 her water was broken. At 11:00 she was in hard labour. At 11:13 I was holding the first and by 11:23 our quiver and arms and hearts were full!

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our two baby girls.

Avery Montana (4lbs 10oz; 11:13pm)
Kharis Eilidh (4lbs 14oz; 11:23pm)

Both girls are in the NICU at the Foothills Hospital, but are doing extremely well. They are breathing on their own, out of an incubator, sharing a crib, and eating very well for babies 5 weeks early. They will most likely be here for another week or two.

My wife is still in the hospital as of June 2. Her blood pressure has still been extremely high, but as of this morning is finally almost back to normal (thanks to strong medications).
She lost a lot of blood after delivery and is very weak, but she is on the mend. Hopefully she will be discharged within the next 24 hours.

R has been spending time with Gramma and Gampa H, and is now looking after Mama E - who is now staying at our place! He is enjoying his new big-boy bed and the attention of grandparents. However, he misses his parents and has yet to see his sisters!

We apologize that this news is now almost a week late, but it has been a week that has been unusual in every way. Holding one child in my arms while my wife is still in labor is an experience few have and one I will never forget. Talk about surreal!

This is R's blog so I will let her post more soon. But if I had a blog of my own I think the title would read "I Want My Girls Back!"

Pictures to come.
